Born and raised in the bustling city of Mississauga, Ontario, Richard’s upbringing was influenced by his parents’ distinct careers. His mother, Shauneen Grotsch, excelled as a real estate agent, while his father, Peter Grotsch, left his mark in the world of Mack Trucks Canada.
Richard’s early life was anchored by a true Canadian love for the outdoors. Family trips to their Muskoka cottage laid the foundation for his lifelong affinity for snowmobiling, boating, and various water sports. These experiences cultivated an appreciation for nature and outdoor adventure, which remained integral throughout his life.
Education played a significant role in shaping Richard’s path. After attending Father Michael Goetz High School in Mississauga, he honed his business acumen at Humber College, earning a degree in Business Management/Administration. Richard’s professional saga began in 2000 with the City of Toronto, where he was deeply involved in Shelter, Support, and Housing. Not only did he contribute significantly to operations, but he also impacted lives at Seaton House, Canada’s largest homeless shelter. His tenacity and dedication to enhancing the quality of life for marginalized sections of the community propelled him forward to Toronto Community Housing. Between 2011 and 2023, Richard ascended through progressively challenging management roles, finally claiming the title of Senior Director of Business Operations. Reporting directly to the COO, he stewarded social housing initiatives for more than 54,000 households, weaving his personal ethos of empathy and service into his professional life.
