Born and raised in the bustling city of Mississauga, Ontario, Richard was the son of Shauneen Grotsch, an adept real estate agent, and Peter Grotsch, who made his mark with Mack Trucks Canada.

The Outdoors and Early Influences

Richard’s early life was anchored by a true Canadian love for the outdoors. Family trips to their Muskoka cottage laid the foundation for his lifelong affinity for snowmobiling, boating, and various water sports. These experiences cultivated an appreciation for nature and outdoor adventure, which remained integral throughout his life.

Education and Business Acumen

Education played a significant role in shaping Richard’s professional journey. After attending Father Michael Goetz High School in Mississauga, he honed his business acumen at Humber College, earning a degree in Business Management/Administration. This prepared him for the complex challenges he would later face in his career.

From Shelter Operations to Social Housing

Richard’s professional saga began in 2000 with the City of Toronto, where he was deeply involved in Shelter, Support, and Housing. Here, he not only contributed significantly to the operations but also impacted lives at Seaton House, Canada’s largest homeless shelter. His tenacity and dedication to enhancing the quality of life for the marginalized sections of the community carried him forward to Toronto Community Housing.

Between 2011 and 2023, Richard ascended through progressively challenging management roles, finally claiming the title of Senior Director of Business Operations. Reporting directly to the COO, he stewarded social housing initiatives for more than 54,000 households, weaving his personal ethos of empathy and service into his professional life.

Beyond the Office

Outside his demanding career, Richard never forsook his love for cottage life. He stays active with hobbies such as snowmobilingboating, and enjoying the serene beauty of the outdoors.
